Rothera Bray in 2022-A Year in Review

Rothera Bray year in review

We are hugely proud of our staff and accomplishments in 2022. Here are just a few highlights across the firm this year.

Written by

Offices

2022 has been a busy and exciting time for us as we expanded our East Midlands presence by opening an office in Derby, acquiring JH Powell solicitors.

We have also been renovating all 5 floors of our Nottingham Lace Market office to create modern, open plan workspaces.

Staff

2022 has seen us expand and welcome a total of 37 new members of staff to the firm. Three of our associate solicitors have been promoted to partners and in addition, Greg Almond, joined Headway Nottingham’s Board of Trustees and was appointed to Headway’s Head Injury Solicitors Directory this year. Congratulations Greg!

Services

This year we have expanded our service offering to include Farming Divorce, Equine Law, and Court of Protection work, with the appointments of Court of Protection solicitor Ruth Tarr and Dispute Resolution Partner and Equine Law specialist Caroline Bowler.

Awards and legal rankings

In April, our Wills and Probate partner Jayne Smith won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Nottinghamshire Law Society Awards. This award recognises Jayne’ s commitment and service to her clients, her impact in the local community and her work with Nottinghamshire Law Society’s International Committee.

Our Personal Injury team were also shortlisted for Claimant Team of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards, and we were highly commended in the Community & Charity Champions category at the British Wills and Probate Awards.

In addition, our Family, Transport, Wills and Probate and Serious Injury teams retained their top tier rankings in Chambers and Legal 500.

CSR Initiatives

As long-term supporters of social mobility initiatives, we believe that the very best outcome for our clients is only achieved by recruiting people that are as diverse as our client group.

We have supported NRG Lawyers, which helps non-Russell Group university students enter the legal profession by breaking down barriers and supporting and nurturing individuals whatever university they attend or route they take into law. Rothera Bray is proud to be their first signatory outside of London!

We have also developed partnerships with Think Forward and Young Enterprise Scheme to provide mentoring and coaching to young people and several members of staff have also given talks to local schools about routes into law and what a career in law looks like.

Charity and Events

Our charity committee have organised several fundraising activities, including bake-offs for Macmillan and Children in Need and a sunflower growing competition raising money for Ukraine.

We also partnered with local charity Framework on their Building Better Futures initiative and our Charity Golf Day in September raised over £4000 for the charity.

A great time was had by all, at our staff and family Fun Day at Wollaton Park, which raised money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

Finally, our Wills and Probate team was recently presented with a Certificate from Cancer Research UK for participating in the charity’s Free Will Service and facilitating over £648,000 in gifts in wills to Cancer Research UK over the last financial year.

As we come to the end of 2022 and look back on what we have achieved, we look forward to welcoming 2023 and the opportunities it brings.
