What is Baby Loss Awareness Week?
The week is aimed at raising awareness of the impact of losing a child. It offers a chance to reflect, remember, and support others affected by baby loss. The theme this year is ‘Together, we care.’ It focuses on finding time to care for ourselves and each other as part of a community affected by all forms of pregnancy and baby loss.
Baby loss can be a very isolating experience. This week provides an opportunity for people to come together and support each other.
How to get involved with Baby Loss Awareness Week
Baby Loss Awareness Week is supported by an alliance of charities that assist those affected by loss in various ways. People are encouraged to reach out to those charities for specific events. These include the dedication of pink and blue ribbons, sharing stories and breaking the silence around pregnancy and baby loss.
As the week draws to a close this culminates with a global ‘Wave of Light’ on 15 October at 7pm. Families worldwide are invited to light a candle in remembrance of babies who died too soon.
Our thoughts
If you’ve lost a pregnancy or baby due to medical negligence, you may be able to bring a claim against the medical professionals.
Maternity care investigations have been at the forefront of health news in recent years. Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is currently under the largest investigation in NHS history. University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust are working to improve their maternity services. They have recently confirmed in a recent article that they ‘could and should have done better’ after a review into a number of baby losses.
At Rothera Bray our specialist Clinical Negligence team is experienced in investigating such complex claims. We understand the impact such loss can have on families. We will endeavour to assist with any potential claim. We can also signpost you to appropriate support where appropriate.
