Greg, from our serious injury team and the legal representative for two survivors, said:

“My client, Wayne Birkett, and I are grateful to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Justice for inviting us to today’s meeting at Number 10.

“We were given the opportunity to share Wayne’s experience directly, and to hear first-hand about the Government’s response to the tragic events of 13 June 2023. We were pleased to learn that a judge-led public inquiry will be carried out in a matter of weeks. This will be the only way to uncover the facts, ensure genuine responsibility, and prevent future failures.

“I am delighted to have the full support of the Secretary of State for Justice Minister, who recognises the importance of keeping Wayne and the other survivors involved. The pain and trauma experienced by surviving victims like Wayne are lifelong, and their need for answers, recognition, and support is imperative. All victims of this tragedy – whether bereaved or surviving – deserve to be treated with equal respect and importance.

“During today’s meeting, Wayne was able to make it clear that the truth matters – not just for him, but for everyone affected. We felt listened to entirely and have achieved what we set out to do. We have been guaranteed that Wayne and the other injured survivors will be core participants moving forward.”
