Rothera Bray & Ridewise partnering up for cycling survey: Pedalling through the pandemic

ridewise cycling survey

Since Covid-19, cyclists have been using the quieter roads as an opportunity to cycle as part of their daily exercise and as RideWise would state ‘The cycle revolution has arrived!’.

Recent reports have indicated that cycling levels increased by as much as 300% during the first lockdown and we want to take that research further,

Rothera Bray have partnered up with RideWise to launch a joint cycling survey: pedalling through the pandemic. We want to find out about the habits of cyclists in Nottingham pre and post lockdown.

If you are a non-cyclist please also participate as we want to know what barriers may be stopping you from cycling. Participants will be entered into a prize draw to win £50 of Amazon Vouchers.

RideWise is a Nottinghamshire based charity that is dedicated to education and support for the environmental benefits of green forms of transport. Each year RideWise helps thousands of people to gain travel independence, reduce reliance on fossil fuel vehicles and to help break down the barriers of isolation, inactivity, mental health, and transport poverty by supporting people through active travel.

Together we want to ensure that more people can get out and about on their bikes safely.

“We’re excited to be working with Rothera Bray supporting people to be happy, safe and confident whilst cycling.  We’ve helped thousands of people to enjoy time on their bikes and this partnership will enable us to reach even more people and families, giving them the training, bikes and skills they need”

Helen Hemstock – RideWise Chief Executive

Safe winter cycling

In the darker and colder days ahead staying active will prove to be an even greater challenge than in Spring. Every year the arrival of the darker and colder nights means there is an increase of accidents on our roads. Thus, it is now critical that cyclists should be more wary of the risk of injury during the current pandemic. Particularly during the winter months.

RideWise has teamed up with sustainable travel organisations to bring you their combined expertise at keeping safe and visible on journeys.

We hope the current lockdown is used as an opportunity for city planners to make cycling safer, improving city layouts and  cycle routes so that the undoubted health benefits can be realised when we all return to commuting in a very different post Covid-19 world.

Unfortunately, serious injuries do occur to cyclists, pedestrians, and other innocent road users.

Five people die every day on the roads in Great Britain and many more are seriously injured. These statistics have remained broadly constant for several years. As a team here at Rothera Bray we regularly deal with clients who have suffered life changing injuries following accidents caused by drivers treating the roads as a speed track.

Our specialist team work hard to ensure cyclists receive urgent rehabilitation, care and compensation so they can rebuild their life and hopefully get back on their bike as quickly as possible.

Cycling is a life skill and learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage.

Learn to ride a bike safely

RideWise provide group and one to one sessions to allow the instructor to assess your current level, find out what your needs are and help you gain the confidence to achieve your goals. Thus, RideWise can help cyclists get back on the road safely.

Bikeability

RideWise also work with lots of Nottingham primary schools to deliver Bikeability. Bikeability is based on the government’s National Standard for cycling and instructor training. It prepares people to cycle everywhere cycling is permitted. Bikeability is designed to give young people the skills and confidence to ride, especially on roads.
