Wayne Birkett, a survivor of the 2023 Nottingham attacks carried out by Valdo Calocane, met with the Health Secretary Wes Streeting on Thursday 5th February 2026, accompanied by his partner Tracey, and Greg Almond.

In response to the meeting, Greg prepared the following statement to share with the press:

“We are grateful to Wes Streeting for taking the time today to meet with a survivor of the Nottingham attacks. This marked the first such meeting, and he listened carefully and thoughtfully to Wayne’s experiences, recognising the importance of hearing directly from survivors. During the discussion, the concerns and views of another survivor, Sharon Miller – who was unable to attend in person – were also shared to ensure her voice formed part of the conversation.

Mr Streeting committed to maintaining open lines of communication with survivors as his department considers any necessary and appropriate steps to help ensure meaningful progress is made to improve mental health services in Nottingham. In addition, he acknowledged the vital role that Headway Nottingham has played in supporting Wayne as he continues to live with the impact of a significant brain injury.”
