Charley Kelly has been a member of Resolution since 2021 and joined the Leicestershire committee board on 16 November 2023, after being approached to join.

As a committee member of Resolution Leicestershire, Charley will attend the organisation’s AGM and committee meetings, as well as help to organise events held by the organisation over the course of the year.

What is Resolution?

Resolution is a community of family law professionals including students, trainees, solicitors, judges, financial planners, and family mediators who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way; believing that a non-confrontational approach to family law issues helps to produce better outcomes for separating families and their children.

Why use a Resolution accredited solicitor?

The benefit of using a Resolution accredited solicitor is that it means that you can be sure that your solicitor, in dealing with your matter, will:

  • Listen to you, be honest with you and treat you with respect.
  • Explain all the options and give you confidence to make the right decisions.
  • Help you focus on what’s important in the long-term.
  • Help you balance financial and emotional costs with what you want to achieve.
  • Work with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you.

As an organisation, Resolution seeks to implement a more collaborative approach to family law. They are always campaigning for much needed changes or clarity in family law, with their most recent campaign being in relation to cohabitation. In addition, the National Chair of Resolution regularly meets the President of the Family Division and leading members of government, where they discuss the issues faced by those practising family law and this information then helps to inform the judiciary and the legislative committees in coming up with new ways/functions/procedures on how to assist parties facing family law issues.

On her reasons for becoming a Resolution committee member, Charley said:

“I have always had a passion and drive to help people, and this is what ultimately led me to wanting to study the law and practice family law. I believe that aspects of family law affect everyone on so many different levels and that is why it is so important that key advice is given to people who often find themselves in highly emotive situations where they cannot see any way through. Sometimes even the smallest piece of advice can be lifechanging to a client and can make a world of difference to them and their situation.

“When family law issues arise, clients have to deal with both the legal side of the matter but also the huge emotional toll that it takes on them, whether the issue is relating to the breakdown of a relationship that they wished would have been long lasting or having to reach agreement on how to share living and contact arrangements with their children.

“Resolution strives to make the law clearer, the process less acrimonious and seeks to achieve outcomes quicker, which are hopefully effective for all involved and why I am proud to be an accredited member of Resolution.”
