Amputation Case Study – £1,950,000 damages

Ms W suffered a fractured leg in three places and severe soft tissue injuries following a Road Traffic Accident.

The Defendant driver collided with Ms W while she was stood at the rear of her vehicle. Due to the severity of the impact and seriousness of her injuries, reconstruction of her leg was not possible and so, a below the knee amputation took place.

After we had obtained and served extensive evidence in support of our client’s claim the Defendant’s insurers offered £1,700,000 in full and final settlement.

Following further negotiations our Head of Serious Personal Injury solicitor Greg Almond, negotiated an increased settlement of £1,950,000. Greg said, ‘It was extremely satisfying to recently settle Ms. W’s case. Ms. W suffered life changing injuries due to a road traffic accident.

‘Following our instruction, we immediately secured several significant interim payments and we arranged via the case manager a 4-week residential rehabilitation program. A new suitable adapted vehicle was also purchased providing our client with much needed independence.

‘Expert evidence was obtained. Following extensive negotiations a significant settlement was secured allowing our client to fund her ongoing care requirements and purchase a new suitable property’.
