“Following the sad loss of my mother we sort the professional services of Rothera Bray in particular Nelissa Hicks. Since our very first face to face meeting with Nelissa and her colleague both my husband and I felt confident and thoroughly informed of the process we were now undertaking. We were contacted regularly with updates and any query raised was dealt with by Nelissa immediately. This gave us peace of mind at a difficult time. We were so impressed with the team at Rothera Bray that we are using their conveyancing department for a house sale too which has proved to us the professionalism is throughout the company. I would highly recommend this company if you need sound advice from a pro active, trustworthy solicitor.”S Garner
“Experiencing a sudden death of a family member who lived over 500 miles away and who turned out to be intestate, was a very stressful time. Nelissa Hicks at Rothera Bray Mapperley offered her services at very short notice. She was calm, kind and gave me a full understanding of the legal process necessary to wind up an intestate estate. I fully recommend her as a probate/intestate lawyer and wish her all the very best for the future.”Christine
“I have been extremely impressed with Rothera Bray and their handling of a recent Inland Revenue and probate submission due to the death of a close friend. I found Mrs Nelissa Hicks as my dedicated solicitor to be approachable, helpful and informative, always supportive when helping me deal with a situation I was unfamiliar with as executor and beneficiary to my friend’s estate. From the beginning Mrs Hicks carefully explained what was required from me and supported me throughout the gathering of all necessary information to meet tax and probate requirements. She was always prompt to respond to my telephone calls, emails and any queries and questions and concerns of mine and always actioned any agreed stages expediently. This meant that the IHT audit was completed quickly and efficiently and in turn probate was granted sooner than I was expecting, due, I am sure, to Mrs Hicks’ diligence and efficiency. ”Jacqueline Colquitt
“As a former solicitor of many years' standing, I have very high expectations when consulting solicitors as a client. Some years ago, Nelissa Hicks completed a very complex probate matter for us, so when we needed a probate solicitor again recently we were delighted that she was also available to act for us this time. She is extremely knowledgeable and skilled and always pays close attention to detail. She is also super-efficient and responsive, extremely personable, and she has boundless energy and enthusiasm for her work. Absolutely superb service - thank you so much!”Hilary

“Nelissa Hicks dealt with our probate application for my mother’s estate. She was diligent, efficient and infinitely trustworthy. I appreciated her candour but she was also empathetic. I can’t recommend them enough.”Karen
“We have received outstanding support from Nelissa Hicks and her team at Rothera Bray in Mapperley. She clarified all the steps required in processing the Lasting Powers of Attorney and progressed our application to the Office of the Public Guardian with no hiccoughs (that I understand can be a major hurdle). If you are looking for an efficient and competent solicitor in this field we would strongly recommend her.”Angus
“I employed Rothera Bray and principally Ms Nelissa Hicks to assist with legal procedures required following a bereavement/probate involving private and complex international accounts. I have found the support and service I received exemplary, Nelissa has been not only efficient and thorough but also extremely empathetic and understanding during what was quite a stressful and upsetting time. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Rothera Bray and Ms Nelissa Hicks and her colleagues for anyone requiring legal assistance and advice. Nelissa and her team helped navigate me through what was a very difficult and challenging time and I am very grateful to them.”Liz Hall
“Nelissa really stood out for us both; how she made planning for death seem a relatively pleasurable experience, I don't know. She was knowledgeable, experienced, switched on, efficient and great to deal with.”Kelly Morrison
“Our experience of working with Rothera Bray was extremely positive, especially in terms of their; expediency, professional approach, simple advice with difficult decisions, witnessing protocols and finishing the work to our chosen timescales even if that involved weekend working. Rothera Bray delivered exactly with the outcome we wanted within very short timescales, but also with an appropriately balanced vetting of our circumstances, there was a definite duty of care applied to the process. We would have no hesitation in recommending Rothera Bray, because their attention to detail and impartial advice to both parties in our joint will writing journey made the whole experience less stressful than it had been in the past. The final documents were clear and concise. Choosing a local family orientated firm was definitely the best choice for our needs given their personalised approach. ”

There has finally been a breakthrough in the deadlock surrounding the Government’s Employment Rights Bill (“ERB”), which has been the subject of significant back-and-forth between the House of Commons and the House of Lords in recent weeks. In particular, there has been much debate around the qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims but it now appears that a compromise has been reached to enable the ERB to pass without further undue delay.

The 2025 Autumn Budget has brought real changes for property owners, landlords, and families – but not the sweeping tax overhaul that many expected. While chancellor Rachel Reeves left stamp duty unchanged, she declared a new annual ‘council-tax-style’ surcharge for £2m+ homes, higher income tax on rents from 2027, and incremental updates to capital gains tax (CGT) and inheritance tax (IHT).

We’re delighted that nine of our talented trainees and chartered legal executives have officially qualified as solicitors and are continuing their legal careers with us here.
