- David trained as a Solicitor at E. Edwards, Son & Noice (now Edwards Duthie) in the East End of London
- David qualified in 1989 into residential conveyancing before leaving E. Edwards, Son & Noice
- David moved to the Midlands in 1990 and started working at Hatlem-Olsem as a solicitor until 1992
- Between 1992 and 1994 David worked for Miles and Cash in Derby
- David joined J H Powell & Co in 1994 and became a Partner in 1995.
- David joined Rothera Bray in October 2022 when the firm acquired its Derby office
